The Black Sheep Wrestling Club has operated out of Snellville Ga at Shiloh(youth folkstyle and high school freestyle),So Gwinnett(youth folkstyle),Brookwood(high school freestyle),Jefferson(high school freestyle) and Central Gwinnett High School. County.
Originally founded in 2001 as a freestyle club at Shiloh H.S. in Gwinnett Co. mainly for high schoolers. The Black sheep started a youth folk team in 2002.
Black Sheep didn't just teach kids moves like many wrestling schools. We Coach wrestlers in a team envirorment attending nearly every instate folk and free tourny for the past 4 yrs. We got to know our kids and helped them as individuals putting in the Saturdays. That's the time consuming toughest part.. and the most rewarding..seeing their first wins watching them mature as athletes and sportsman. Seeing their early defeats turn to victories Witnessing the growth of their courage, the shaping of their work ethic and best of all watching them learn to lead seeing some give back to the younger kids showing selflessness and loyalty to each other..
The Black Sheep philosophy was to help 10 kids for $10 a piece rather than 1 for $100. We have never turned a kid away because his hand didn't hold enough cash.We believed that profiteering at an athletes expense was contrary to our mission.
The Black Sheep hoped to be more than a local club serving the needs of dedicated athletes. Our ultimate goal was to expand Georgia wrestling. Provide quality inexpensive instruction and workouts while guiding young wrestlers toward college scholarships. Help restore college wrestling to Georgia. One day host and travel to other states and countries exposing kids to the real spirit, adventure and life experience gained through the noble sport of amateur wrestling. We are already achieving many of these goals including Coaching National team at Knoxville 02 then sponsoring 03 Junior Olympic team when original organizer dropped out.
Black Sheep stepped in and up.. administering,organizing,training(12 day camp),transporting and partially funding trip to Detriot in 03.All for less than $300 per kid with everything included including room for a week and $700 team entry. The Georgia Black Sheep made it to the Championship round making it an exciting successful fun trip.In doing so AAU has been brought to Georgia forming the GWA and Georgia held it's first EVER national event.Georgia Wrestling Association is also slated to sponsor Georgia Techs Club College team.
We welcome anyone generous enough to assist us in our continuing effort to attain such lofty goals.
The Black Sheep have coached 50 youth wrestlers during the past two seasons.Carrying 28 kids in "03" and 22 kids in "04". Earning 3 USA State Trophies.2 AAU Border Wars trophies.. the only team to place at both Savannah and Collins Hill.,Champion and Runnerup honors at the prestigeous Kim Andrews Classic. 25 have medaled placing 4th or better at USA states eleven last year and 14 this year. 9 becoming state champs. 10 wrestlers medaled at the AAU Youth Nationals with 6 reaching the finals affordind Black Sheep the most placers team wise.3 became AAU Youth National Champs, Additionally two of our kids earned National Titles traveling to Tulsa and Cleveland. 6 Black Sheep traveled to Virginia Beach for the NHSCA Open Championships.5 out of the six came out All Americans with 1 failing due to injury.Last years 8th grade captain Josh Matlack became a high school 5A State Champ helping his highschool(Parkview) earn it's first ever state title. You boys are building a tradition from scatch and know we are very proud of all of you.Black Sheep parents and athletes aided the first ever National wrestling tournament in Georgia and subsequently AAU has awarded an annual event to the Georgia Wrestling Assoc. an association founded in part by the Black Sheep Coaches ,parents and wrestlers.
PERSEVERANCE
"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistance. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent... Calvin Coolidge

2004 USA STATES(big kids): The few the proud.. 8 wrestlers that entered ALL won matches against the states toughest competition. Qualifier Champ John Collins wrestled with pride and heart in a stacked class grabbed a victory over a quality boy and suffered two losses at the hands of the State Champ and a placer.
Nick Isburgh turned a corner taking heavily favored more experienced wrestlers to their backs never accepting defeat without boldly challenging himself expecting more and getting it.
Jon Isburgh arrived as a true future champ splitting with multiple time state placer Scott Forrester placing 4th.
Craig Nagy showed character and guts coming back after dropping a heartbreaking defeat in the semis. He bounced back with 2 pins to become a state bronze medalist.
J.D. Smith State Silver Medalist pinned his way to the state finals including the top seed (all in the first period)all this from a second year kid. J.D.was out wrestled in the finals succumbing to his relative inexperience but never to a lack of heart.
Daniel Helena 2004 State Champion went to war in the state finals against a tough kid he barely squeeked by last yr showing his improvement by totally controling and eventually tech falling him.
Zack Moore 2004 State Champion made a promise to himself get better..he kept his word.A year of hard work later. The Black Sheep call Zack the most dedicated Youth wrestler. We are also proud to call him State Champ.
2004 USA STATE RUNNERUPS (midget)
Little Kids States with 11 entered. 9 medaled including 4 finalists Sam,Justin silvermedals and Chance and Nolan both champions...Tommy took a bronze at States this time out and his twin Danny won the AAU Nationals..Logan Bliss worked harder this year to place in a tougher weight. Hard work pays off.Kevin Youdell scrapped his way to the medal round as did a very sick Tyler Jarvis who came close to not wrestling...well he changed his mind and showed me his heart going the whole day finishing 4th..Miles had to prove to many non-believers that he can't be bound by anyones expectations of his limitations topping quite a few boys predicted to send him home early.Josh Lovin was injured we know he was disappointed coming this far without getting the opportunity to go for it. But these lessons are part of life dealing with and rising from adversity.
A full 14 of our total 22 wrestlers medaled at the state tournament. All our boys win or lose... share in any honor we bring home myself your coaches and parents could not be any prouder.
