Proposal for Spotlight Dual Freestyle Tournament
We would invite 8 or so additional States and field 2 maybe 3 Georgia squads then hopefully grab a foreign national team touring the country. We invite a few New England states, a Midwest state, maybe a Southwest state,a western state even one of the Dakotas.We bring in recruiters from institutions other than the South.Why not the South? Because they already recruit from Georgia. They can only take so many. Cumberland, Anderson and UTC are aware that Georgia exists.Delaware,New York,New Mexico,Maine,Vermont,Indiana,Utah,North and South Dakota aren't as aware.
It's a big country with alot of Colleges and Universities...think outside the box.
We pay the recruiters lodging and food maybe even travel.College is a business and we need to make the experience enjoyable for these recruiters.Make the place fun to be in aside from the wrestling itself location wise. Then prepare and train for event.
Two pools would be formed with between 4 and 6 teams per pool.A friday night opening would include all teams wrestling two matches if we had the 12 team maximum.Then 3 matches on Saturday..and an additional match in the finals.The model that we would use is AAU Junior Olympic Dual format.Eighteen man squads to wrestle in 15 weight classes.Standard Junior weights starting at 98lbs.
List of whats needed:
1 Concrete commitment from a school or tournament site.
2 Sanctioning bodies (AAU,USA etc) stamp of approval for insurance purposes.
3 Non-conflicting date so we don't lose wrestlers to other events or pull kids away from important national tournaments.List of national nhsca,aau and usa events would be needed to cross reference and find an ideal date.
