DUES: The enrollment fee is $60.00, which includes a team t-shirt, entry fee to Maysville’s tournament, and membership in USA WRESTLING which is mandatory. For families with more than one wrestler, each additional wrestler is $50.00. There will be a $40.00 singlet deposit due BEFORE SINGLETS WILL BE ISSUED TO ANY WRESTLER REGARDLESS. The deposit will be returned at the end of the year banquet.

SEASON: Last from November until the end of February, with the State qualifying tournaments and State Tournament starting in March. On February 27th, there will be a Rookie State Tournament for all 1st year wrestlers age 7 to 14 (this is ONLY for 1st year wrestlers) and held in conjunction with Rookie State, there will be a separate State Tournament for all 6 and under wrestlers (Ages 5 and 6 only, no 4 year olds) This tournament will be held at the Civic Arena in St. Joseph MO.

PRACTICES: Held every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday for 6-8 pm. A calendar with all practice dates for the season can be found in your packet. Wrestlers should wear t-shirts and comfortable loose fitting shorts free of zippers, buttons, or snaps. We ask that if parents and siblings attend practices, that you sit quietly on the chairs and benches around the mats. The noise is a distraction from practice, and we do not want anyone getting injured. Siblings and other children should not be left without parental supervision at practices.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: In case of school cancellation due to weather. I will post cancelled practices on our website http://www.kidssportsnet.com/wrestling/maysville or you can check with me at home 816-449-2722
If school is cancelled or there is an early dismissal for any reason, WE WILL NOT HAVE PRACTICE!!!
Most tournaments are held regardless of weather, if I receive information that a tournament is cancelled, I will call all competitors registered to attend that tournament.

WEIGHT: The club DOES NOT encourage weight loss for any wrestler. Weight classes for each tournament are generally in 5lbs increments and can be changed at registration for that particular tournament, so that a wrestler is not bound to a certain weight class for the season. HOWEVER, the weight put down for a tournament IS BINDING, so at the time of registration parents will need to commit to a weight for that tournament. PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO MAKE A WEIGHT CHANGE AFTER REGISTRATION FOR THAT TOURNAMENT IS CLOSED.

TOURNAMENTS: Schedules for upcoming tournaments will be handed out at practice on a later date, and will also be posted on the website. Tournaments are held on Saturdays and Sundays. While participation at tournaments is encouraged and helps develops skills, they are considered optional and at the discretion of each wrestler and family. TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION will be held at practice on Monday nights. If you are unable to attend that practice, please email registration information to angie.riggs@ymail.com. A PARENT will have to register their own child (this is insure that the wrestler is registered for the correct tournament and entered at the correct weight) The parent will initial the entry, and the TOURNAMENT FEE WILL BE PAID AT THE TIME OF SIGN-UP OR BEFORE THE REGISTRATION ENDS FOR THAT TOURNAMENT. NOT LATE ENTRIES OR LATE WEIGHT CHANGES WILL BE TAKEN. Please be aware of all entry deadlines. This is unfair to the host club to ask to change brackets or add a wrestler at the last minute. Tournament fees normally are $13-$15 and are due 1 to 2 weeks before the tournament. The tournament schedules will be handed out monthly and posted on the website. Flyers will be available at practice and they will include date of tournament, location, weigh-in schedules and when entry is due. IT IS THE PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO WATCH THEIR OWN CHILDREN AT TOURNAMENTS. Each tournament usually has anywhere from 300-600 wrestlers participating. It is not the coaches job to baby-sit.

EQUIPMENT: Headgear is mandatory for all tournaments and is strongly encouraged for all practices. Wrestling shoes are also essential for all tournaments and preferred for practice. Headgear and shoes can be purchased at most sporting good stores such as MC Sports and I also have wrestling catalogs they can be purchased from. The club has available shoes that have been donated by parents. These shoes are gently worn but are still in good condition, and is a great way to save on initial cost. If any parents have any equipment such as headgear or shoes that they would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. For shoes without lace guards, athletic tape must be used to cover all shoelaces, and can also be purchased at sporting good stores. Most tournaments will also have wrestling vendors that setup tables with equipment for purchase.

PARENTAL INVOLEMENT: One of the strengths of our club is our support from families of our wrestlers. We encourage parents to observe and or actively participate in practice. If you are interested in becoming a coach, whether by helping at practice or coaching at tournaments please see Willie Riggs or Chris Berry.
For those interested in coaching at tournaments, there will be a clinic held at the Maysville School (TBA) and you can obtain a coaching card. REMEMBER THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE AT MATSIDE WITH YOUR CHILD AT TOURNAMENTS.

MAYSVILLE YOUTH WRESTLING TOURNAMENT: Will be held on January 9th, 2010. Our success is dependent upon all of the club’s involvement. This is a primary fundraiser for the year, and we ask that all parents help at the tournament. Additional information and duty sign-ups will be available as January approaches.

WEBSITE: http://www.kidssportsnet.com/wrestling/maysville
You can check here for all practice times, tournament schedules, statistics, and tournament results. If anyone would like to summit pictures to posted on the website, please email to me at angie.riggs@ymail.com and I will make sure they get on the website.

BEHAVIOR: There is conduct contract in your packet. If is essential that any wrestler at either practice or tournaments be able to act appropriately. This includes listening to coaches, displaying good sportsmanship and being supervised by parents at tournaments. If your child or you as a parent is not able to comply with expectations, the coaches or I will discuss this with you. If the problems continue, then the season will end for that wrestler.

AWARDS BANQUET: Every year we conclude our season with an awards banquet. All wrestlers will be recognized!!!!!
The date for the banquet will be scheduled at a later date.

CLUB GOALS: Maysville Youth Wrestling Club was founded on the premise of promoting youth wrestling and the subsequent values of sportsmanship, family involvement and fun. Each wrestler is encouraged to find their place in the sport at their own pace. HAVE FUN AND HAVE A GREAT SEASON!!!!!!
