Tri-Cap Parent Information

Sports Physical – Every wrestler will be required to obtain a Sports Physical this year. The physical must be dated after August 1, 2009. This is becoming a necessity with every sport.

Season – Begins November 30th and ends in March with the State series occurring in March. This season looks to be very exciting with some outstanding talent returning and newcomers being warmly welcomed.

Dues - The enrollment fee is $80, which includes a t-shirt, entry fees to tournaments and a mandatory $35 fee to MOUSA Wrestling for a card.

Equipment - The club will supply singlets for tournaments but a deposit of $40 is required. A refund will be given upon the return of the singlet at the end of the year. Headgear is mandatory for all tournaments and practices. Wrestling shoes are also essential for tournaments and preferred for practice. Headgear and shoes may be purchased at local sports stores. Each year returning wrestlers will have shoes that will be avaiable for sale this is a first come first serve basis.

Weight - The club does NOT encourage weight loss for any wrestler. Weight classes at tournaments are generally in five-pound increments and can be changed during sign-up for the tournament so that a wrestler is not bound to a certain weight for the season. However, the registration weight for a tournament IS binding so at the time of registration parents will need to commit to a weight for that tournament.

Practices - see schedule link for practice schedule. Clothing should be light and loose fitting with no zippers or snaps on shorts. Wrestlers MUST shower immediately after every practice and tournament. Wrestling is a close contact sport and some skin diseases are contagious; the best prevention is a thorough shower. Skin Defender is available for purchase.

Email - Most of our communication will be done via email so please make sure to let us know your email address. Also ensure that you provide the most regularly checked email so that you are aware of updates, directions, etc. If email is not an option, let us know and we will have paper copies at practices for those who ask.

Website - The address is www.kidssportsnet.com/wrestling/tricap. You can check here for a tournament schedule, forms, statistics and even pictures of your wrestler.

Tournaments – The sign-up sheets will be posted outside the Wrestling Room. You will have opportunities to sign-up two-three weeks prior to each tournament. Once the sign-up sheet is turned in, the sheet becomes final. A schedule is posted on the website at www.kidssportsnet.com/wrestling/tricap if interested. While participation at tournaments is encouraged and helps develop skills, they are considered optional and at the discretion of each wrestler and family. There will be two weeks in order to sign up for tournaments.

Inclement Weather - In the case of cancellation due to weather, we will try to email the club as soon as we know. As always, we will call the radio stations for announcement. There may still be practice, even if school is cancelled, IF the roads are safe. Most tournaments will happen regardless of weather due to some competitors coming the night before, some being local, etc.

Parental Involvement - One of the strengths of the Tri-Cap Wrestling Club is our tremendous support from the families of our wrestlers. We are in need of parents to become involved to carry on the legacy of the Tri-Cap Wrestling Club such as officers, committees, coaches and etc. Many of the current officers will be moving on as well as their wrestlers. We encourage parents to observe and/or actively participate in any area. If you are interested in becoming a coach, whether by helping at practice or coaching at tournaments, please see Randy Prenger. For those interested in coaching at tournaments, there will be a Copper Clinic which is necessary in order to obtain a coaching card. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE MATSIDE WITH YOUR CHILD AT TOURNAMENTS. There will be a coaching clinic in December in Columbia for those interested in obtaining their coaches' card in order to be mat side for their wrestler. The USA Wrestling fee for this clinic is $40 but it provides for entry into most tournaments free of charge for coaches.

Tri-Cap Tournament – The Tri-Cap tournament is scheduled for January 19th. Be prepared to volunteer. We need new folks to learn bracketing, concession, bullpen, etc.

Club Goals – Tri-Cap Wrestling Club was founded on the premise of promoting youth wrestling and the subsequent values of sportsmanship, family involvement and fun. Each wrestler is encouraged to find their notch in the sport at their own pace. Have a great season!
